ESS Methodology Summary

ESS Snapshot uses a structured, multi-stage methodology to analyse environmental stability and generate actionable reports.

1. Video Processing (ESS Basic)

Users may record a new video or select and upload an existing video from their device for assessment.

Video selected or uploaded into ESS is processed locally on the user's device to extract environmental stability indicators, including:

  • movement flow patterns,

  • clutter indicators,

  • lighting consistency,

  • environmental rhythm,

  • hesitation points,

  • hazard markers.

Video does not leave the user's device and raw video is not transmitted to or stored on ESS servers.

2. Metric Generation

ESS produces six core environmental stability metrics:

  • Drift

  • Hesitation

  • Noise

  • Flow

  • Hazard

  • Rhythm

These metrics form the foundation of both ESS Basic and ESS Premium Reports.

3. Specialty Interpretation (ESS Premium)

Processed assessment information is interpreted according to the selected care or environmental setting, including:

  • dementia care,

  • general nursing,

  • acute wards,

  • supported living,

  • residential care,

  • community environments.

Specialty interpretation is intended to provide relevant environmental observations and practical considerations for the selected setting. It does not provide medical diagnosis, clinical assessment, or individual patient risk assessment.

4. Good Practice and Safety Context

Premium Reports may incorporate considerations relating to:

  • relevant CQC expectations and good practice principles,

  • general dementia-friendly environmental concepts,

  • fire safety awareness factors,

  • environmental safety and risk considerations.

ESS is designed to support environmental awareness, quality improvement, and internal review. It does not replace professional judgement, formal risk assessments, statutory inspections, clinical assessment, or regulatory requirements.

No external proprietary assessment tools or third-party scoring systems are referenced or used as part of the ESS methodology.

5. Report Output

ESS generates information that may include:

  • environmental stability scores and risk levels,

  • specialty-specific examples,

  • practical environmental improvement suggestions,

  • guidance informed by relevant good-practice considerations,

  • information that may support environmental walk-rounds and internal inspections.

ESS reports are intended to support informed decision-making and quality improvement. They should not be presented as evidence of regulatory compliance or as a substitute for any statutory, clinical, fire-safety, or professional assessment.
